When I interviewed Katherine Lewin about her new book, she told me that she doesnt watch movies that often but tends to have a preference for character studies. While compiling a list of movies for her, I decided why not make this a full on post?

Broadly speaking, character studies are films that prioritize people— their personality, motivations, and emotions—over advancing a traditional plot. Taxi Driver is the most oft-cited example.
