I looked up a trailer and second review for Soft & Quiet. I can’t help but wonder if this is the kind of film that intends to be provocative and then pulls in an unintended audience of sympathizers. Scary either way!
I felt the same, especially since it's now on Netflix, though i'd never fault the director for such consequences. it's funny, Christian Mungiu, whose movie deals with nativism, xenophobia, etc., said his movie similarly found unexpected fans for the wrong reasons!
My suspicion is that “the algorithm” exasperates this exact scenario, especially on Netflix. This is going to pop up in 2 feeds: frequent searches for horror AND frequent searches for nationalism or whatever these folks use as key words. I say this mostly because when I went in for my third Google on the subject I stopped myself and thought, this search is NSFW...
